One of the comments raised by the UNESCO commission which visited the archaeological site in 2006 was that the work is done under the minimum standards required of a site for Cultural Heritage of Humanity, among them that those involved in archaeological work are archaeologists profecional license to practice. In this sense, there was a formal commitment from the Ministry of professionalizing technical controls and train project managers and skilled workers in the excavation. This was an ongoing demand of the Society of Archaeology, which never received the attention of relevant authorities (VMC and UNAR), since the interventions were made by staff without sufficient qualification to make this work.
The commission visited Tiwanaku and listened to all stakeholders, while explaining the purpose, components and project schedule. Among the components of the commission were in addition to the authorized representative of UNESCO, the Arql. Marcos Michel, nacionl recently appointed coordinator to oversee this project, the representative of the Embassy of Japan, Mireya Muñoz Arch (ICOMOS), Arch Freddy Rivero (VMC), The Architect Jimmy Ledezma (UMSA), The Arql.
